Salatul Tasbeeh: A Prayer of Forgiveness

Salatul Tasbeeh is a voluntary prayer performed for seeking forgiveness and blessings from Allah. It is an effective way of repentance and purification of the soul. The prayer is was taught by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to his uncle, Hazrat Abbas (RA), who then conveyed it to the Muslims. The hadith is narrated below.

Salatul Tasbih is composed of four rakats, with each rakat consisting of a 75x number of recitations of the third kalima tasbeeh glorifying Allah. The method of performing Salatul Tasbeeh is mentioned in the hadith as follows:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“O Abbas! O my uncle! Shall I not give you a gift? Shall I not show you something by means of which Allah will forgive your sins, the first and the last of them, the old and the new, the unintentional and the intentional, the small and great, the secret and open?

You should pray 4 rak'ahs, reciting in each one Fatiha and a surah.
When you finish the recitation of the 1st rak'ah you should say 15 times while standing,
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَ اللّٰهُ اَكْبَرُ ط
Then you should bow and say it 10 times while bowing. Then you should raise your head after bowing & say it 10 times. Then you should kneel down in prostration & say it 10 times while prostrating yourself. Then you should raise your head after prostration & say it 10 times. Then you should prostrate yourself & say it 10 times. Then you should raise your head after prostration & say it 10 times. That will be 75x in every rak’ah. Do that in all 4 rak'ahs.

If you can observe it once daily, do so; if not, then once weekly; if not, then once a month;
if not, then once a year; if not, then at least once in your lifetime.”

In conclusion, Salatul Tasbeeh is a prayer of forgiveness that can bring numerous blessings and rewards to the person who performs it. It is considered a Sunnah prayer and has been praised by many scholars and is widely practiced among the Auliya and by Muslims seeking purification of the soul and forgiveness from Allah.
