From the moment I saw TASM2 or The Amazing Spider Man 2 in theaters back in 2014 and Andrew Garfield's Spidey charged Paul Giamatti's Rhino hurling the sewer cap with his web eventually wiping the screen to black before the battle began, I knew I witnessed something special. I was an emotional mess, not just from the tragic death of Emma Stone's Gwen Stacey, but from experiencing the truest and most relatable Spider-Man story I'd ever seen in amazing spider-man 2. I saw so much of myself in Andrew Garfield Spider-Man, his relationship troubles, his time management, the feeling as though the entire world was closing in on him and no matter what he did he couldn't outrun it. The Peter/Spider-Man in the amazing spider-man 2 is the best spider-man to me because he gave me hope, we saw him triumph over evil, but also lose in the process. We saw my favorite spiderman grapple with grief and loss, trauma, and what it meant like to be a good friend, a good son, how to set an example even if you don't have it all figured out yourself. I know many knock this film for being plagued by studio interference and mandates, that it was overstuffed, convoluted, and flat out messy, but I disagree. Director Marc Webb had a vision and a method to the madness and everything connects in an emotionally satisfying way.
