A quick overview of some of the books we enjoyed (and NOT enjoyed) over the years. Some of these are older editions as we haven't been (islamic) book shopping for a while.
Publishers mentioned:
Dar us Salaam
Learning Roots
Muslim Tree
Topics to generally consider when looking at islamic books and/or stories for kids:
*Stories of the Prophets (this is a good topic to generally start with kids, telling them stories from the beginning of the world, how Allah swt created Adam as etc. until the Prophet Muhammad saws)
*Seerah (biography) of the Prophet saws
*How to make wudhu and how to pray (teaching kids)
Too many Muslim books are too preachy, and/or done with low quality. We have always supplemented with a lot of conversations and discussions.
Generally we'd like to see books with Muslim characters, but not necessarily just being instructional in nature, but just living life. :)
There are many NEWer publishers, check out Ruqayyah's Bookshelf and or Muslim Book Reviewers on Instagram.
This was in impromptu conversation - let us know if you'd like to see more book content.
