Today we take a look at a very unique and cute horror game. Rental is a free to play game that was originally made for a 32 bit jam. Its estethic remind me of games from the Nintendo 64 and we have seen a rise of these types of horror games like Shipwrecked 64 (which I still have to archive someday).
The cute animals and talking sounds are an homage to the style of Animal Crossing and it felt fresh and unique enough to where I would love to see more horror games in the style of Animal Crossing.
There is always something fun of mixing cute estethics in a horror game to let your guard down and then terrify you with a jump scare or other imagery.
The premise of Rental is very simple. You are alone in a rental house and have to search for various objects in order to complete a ritual. It feels very much like a concept demo and I definitley would love to see a fully fleshed out game in this same style.
