Vaccines prevent moderate to severe disease (NOT infection) and save lives. In this lecture we discuss examples of different types of vaccines, including inactivated vaccines, subunit vaccines, and replication competent, infectious vaccines. These concepts are illustrated using vaccines for poliovirus, influenza virus, hepatitis B virus, human papillomavirus, yellow fever virus, and dengue virus.
