So with all the speculation of which MCU characters will be a Skrull–I thought it’d be fun to give a rundown of which characters from the comics turned out to be Skrulls. And some of these reveals were SHOCKING.

Queen Veranke, the Queen of the Skrulls is a character I always felt shared a lot of similarities to the Superman villain, Zod.

They both warned their people of the inevitable destruction their planet, they were both cast out for being viewed as too extreme, both of their planets were destroyed, and they both are now seeking to make earth their species' new homeplanet.

Galactus, the eater of worlds, consumed the Skrulls planet, Tarnax 4, killing 7 billion skrulls in the process.

The Skrulls who survived quickly became beholden to Veranke because she had warned that this would happen.

Now prior to Secret Invasion, we had two other big event comics. House of M, that’s where Wanda finds out her kids aren’t real and loses her mind. She killed a lot of heroes. The MCU’s WandaVision and And Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness both borrowed from this storyline.

Prior to Secret Invasion we also had Civil War which of course has also been loosely adapted in the MCU.

Anyway, we learn that prior to and during the events of House of M and Civil War. Skrulls had been abducting and replacing various heroes. Some have theorized that this is why some characters may have been acting out of character in those comics.

Essentially, it’s a bit of a retcon. But it’s a cool retcon. Looking back at years and years of comics wondering which of your favorite characters may have been Skrulls. Wondering who you can trust. And that is the tagline for this story. WHO DO YOU TRUST?

Not only are the characters in the story placed at odds because they aren’t sure who’s a Skrull. You as the reader are also unaware and questioning who is a Skrull. Analyzing every line of dialogue asking yourself if that seems like the real character you know and love or a damn dirty Skrull!

So in the comics Nick Fury was one of the first characters who started realizing that something Skrully was going on. Which seems to be exactly what we’ll be getting in the MCU’s Secret Invasion.

One of the heroes we learn is a Skrull is Elektra. Please shame me in the comments if I use this as the thumbnail.

Reed Richards, Hank Pym, and Tony Stark, can’t find a single thing that would have made it possible to detect that Elektra was a Skrull prior to her dying and reverting back to her Skrull form.

Reason being that Skrull’s are not only changing their outer appearance. They can transform down to the cell, replicating the DNA of the person they’re imitating.

Now I want to also give you a brief rundown of what the world looks like during the Secret Invasion story. Remember this is after the events of House of M and Civil War. So things were already a little tense. [clip]

The Superhuman Registration Act is in play. Something that I think the MCU’s Department of Damage Control will be implementing soon. Perhaps in Captain America 4: New World Order.

There are heroes who have refused to sign such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Echo, and Iron Fist. [clip]

Almost every state has its own superhero team, such as the Thunderbolts in Colorado. [clip]

AND Tony Stark is the director of SHIELD.

Reed Richards, the smartest man alive [clip] he discovers a way to detect the presence of Skrulls. Upon that discovery, Hank Pym, who we now know is a Skrull. He shoots Reed in the head and it is disgusting.

His death in Multiverse of Madness kind of looked like pushing plado through one of those plado, pushy things…? You know what I’m talking about.

His “death” in Secret Invasion though, it’s like ripped to shreds silly puddy. You can see his eyeball and a row of teeth, it’s just gruesome. But luckily, he does survive and is eventually able to create a Skrull finder giving him and the other heroes the ability to identify Skrulls.

But before that a lot of crazy stuff happens. Such as an army of superpowered Skrulls invading New York City. And they’re in their Skrull forms BUT they have enhanced themselves with superpowers they got from abducting and analyzing Marvel heroes and even some villains. Stealing not only their powers but also technologies.
