If you ask anybody to name their first thoughts about Florida, there’s a good chance they're going to name one of the following: Disney World, alligators, oranges, or Florida Man.

This is understandable. Pop culture has painted Florida as a lawless land, filled with retirees and criminals who are determined to commit their crimes in the most bizarre and inefficient ways possible.

Of course, this is an exaggeration. There are as many beautiful places and diverse residents in Florida as there are in any other area, and the presence of “Florida Man” is actually due to a unique Floridian law that allows the press to access and report on police reports in a way that they can not in almost any other state.

If that law seems strange to you, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Florida has some even stranger laws. Most of these laws are outdated, and still only exist because there has never been a formal motion to overturn them. Still, though they are unlikely to be enforced, you’re technically breaking the law if you violate them!
