This music video is reflective of the emotional meaning behind the song. The way the dancer (Natalie Gordon) flows in and out of the video is reflective of the way the subject of the song flows in and out of your thoughts. The song is all about struggling to let go and adjust to the 'new normal' that comes with losing someone. It's all about encountering old routines that are different now that you're doing them alone. This video is meant to depict that struggle in how very routine things can feel so difficult when you now have to do them alone.
In addition to Heartbeat depicting the struggle of moving on, there is also an underlying sense of not wanting to move on. There is this built up frustration of wishing things were the way they used to be. That frustration is demonstrated through the emotional singing performance.
