Cpt. Steven "Steve" Rogers a.k.a. Captain America,[50] the First Avenger,[29] was rejected by the U.S. Army during World War II due to numerous health problems. He ultimately volunteered for Project Rebirth where he received the Super-Soldier Serum developed by Dr. Abraham Erskine. The serum greatly enhanced his frail body to the peak of human physicality.[51] As the Sentinel of Liberty,[8] alongside his best friend Bucky Barnes[50] and the Invaders,[52] Rogers and others helped the Allies win the war, but not before he was lost at sea and frozen in ice in a form of suspended animation for decades. He was thawed out in the modern age to continue the battle alongside his new allies the Avengers.[53] Cap is loyal to no politician or government and instead upholds the "timeless principles of freedom, equality, and justice of the American Dream".[54]

Takeshi Hongo (本郷 猛, Hongō Takeshi) is the main protagonist of Kamen Rider. He is a young student who was kidnapped by Shocker and turned into a Cyborg (改造人間, Kaizō-Ningen, "Remodeled Human"), later escaping and deciding to use his powers for good as the Kamen Rider (仮面ライダー, Kamen Raidā, "Masked Rider"). Though he temporarily left Japan in the hands of his successor Hayato Ichimonji, he returned and retroactively bore the name Kamen Rider 1 (仮面ライダー1号, Kamen Raidā Ichi-Gō, "Masked Rider 1", "Masked Rider #1", "Kamen Rider #1", or "Kamen Rider 1-go")[3].
