And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

1 Timothy 2:5–6, for there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.

There is no greater mystery than Christmas—the union of the infinite God and finite man in One Person—Jesus. The eternal Son humbled Himself and became flesh to dwell among us—Immanuel. In every way Jesus is eternally begotten of the Father, and in every way Jesus lived a fully human life. Only in Christ’s divinity could He bear the sins of the world, and only in Christ’s humanity could He know death on the cross. Therefore, only Jesus is the mediator between God and men. Jesus became like us so that we may become like Him. Jesus has made a way for anyone who humbles themselves in faith to be caught up in the divine mystery of Christmas.
