The new 10 speed transmissions in Ford and GM vehicles are known for a distinct whining noise. This is due to a defect within the automatic transmission case front cover idler gear and bearing assembly. The gear and bearing begin to walk which causes the gears to have excessive lash and result in a noise. Do not continue to drive the vehicle if it is exhibiting these symptoms.
