Hannah is a big Sci-Fi fan. Yet, looking at some of the new installments of sci-fi, such as the Star Trek series, it is apparent that there is a typical pattern of grim and dystopia. Hannah talks about the need for optimism in fiction and considers sci-fi's role in generating hope for the future. She hopes to inspire students, activists, and writers to envision a brighter future. Hannah Madelon was born in Baltimore, Maryland USA to French and Indonesian parents. She has also lived in many cities across five countries- the US, South Africa, Indonesia, France, and the Netherlands. She has recently completed her Masters degree in International Relations after 4.5 years of living in the Hague. She speaks English, French, Bahasa Indonesia, Spanish, and a bit of Dutch, German, Hindi, and Portuguese. Hannah enjoys reading, ballroom and latin dance, rollerskating, iceskating, and most of all, karaoke. Hannah loves learning about foreign languages and cultures and hopes to see as much of the world as possible. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
