When BARBARELLA was released in 1968 the opening titles were different than the version that was re-released under the title BARBARELLA, QUEEN OF THE GALAXY in 1977. In the re-lease of the film the animation of the letters in the opening credits were changed. Long before PG13 rating code in the 1980's, there was GP in the 1970's and before that "Rated M - for Mature Audiences" in the late 1960's. BARBARELLA had an M rating. The difference in the two versions is slight but highly noticeable. In the 1977 re-release and the DVD version that exists today the letters for David Hemmings credit are "brightened up" to hide Ms. Fonda's vagina. In the original "M" version, Ms. Fonda's vagina is clearly visible behind the floating letters of the David Hemmings credit. Also, the animation of the letters break into pieces off Ms. Fonda's nipples in the original 1968 version. This animation was completely changed in 1977 and remains that way today. What you are seeing here is from a squeezed cinemascope 16mm print of the original 1968 version. It was filmed with a Super 8 camera, so it's several generations behind the original, but it gives you an indication of what the film should look like.
