With roughly 90 seconds of head scratching just before I went on, David Lindley invited me to close our concert with him. We played a version of The Cuckoo (aka Jack of Diamonds) that we had both independently learned from Hobart Smith's version (though that didn't become clear to me until about halfway through the performance). David was generous and gracious as a man and as a musician. He listens as well as he plays, which is saying something. I hope to cross paths with him again and have more time to play together.
