From Happyland to Happy Valley, you’ll see a ton of amazing places that are mostly unknown and have very little tourists. Most of these places are in remote areas of SW Saskatchewan and have little or no services. They make for amazing photography and hiking.

I moved to Shaunavon, SK from Banff in 2006 and have explored most of these places many times. It’s still amazing how many people who live in the province never heard and or never visited any of these spots.

SW Saskatchewan is also where you’ll find unique treasures such as the French town of Gravelbourg or the ghost towns along Highways #13 and #18.

SW Saskatchewan is one of the most thrilling to visit in Canada if you are a photographer, and the adventure begins only 4 hours east of Calgary or an hour south of Regina.

Did you know there is quicksand? Scorpions? Rattlesnakes? Places you can find dinosaur bones?

As a bonus, if you visit Old Man On His Back, in the extreme SW, you can see the mountains on a clear day!

Most people who drive through Saskatchewan take Highway #1. Next time, drive across using one of the southern highways and explore some of these places for yourself. You will be glad you did!
