SD City Lifeguards received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard about a beached sailboat. The Lifeguards arrived and found the 28ft vessel in the surfline with a broken mast.

They also found a male on the boat, and he was drinking Vodka while waiting for the 1st Responders. He told the Lifeguards and SDPD officers that he had left the Oceanside Harbor to head to Mission Bay earlier in the evening. It was not his boat but a friend’s.

He said he put the boat on “Auto-Pilot” and fell asleep while drinking Vodka He woke up when the boat hit the beach. He was not injured. A commercial tug will tow the boat back out to sea.
