My last clip of my daily story brought up the question from some of you as to why we were flying at an odd flight level in Chinese airspace. This is a quick explanation of the reason. I might add that in ICAO, the flight levels are designated in Metres and was agreed by all countries. For ease of operation(as the majority of countries were already using altimeters calibrated in feet), it was easier to continue using feet. China and Russia for that matter at the time immediately changed to the agreed medium of Metres. (Russia has mostly converted), but China levels are in metres and we have to make a conversion to set the correct level. The video I’m sure is clear enough.
