The Green New Deal Resolution was a framework introduced by Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Senator Ed Markey in 2019. It was groundbreaking because it actively called for drastic and swift action to be taken in the realm of climate change. The goals that it laid out also had a strong emphasis on workers' rights and environmental and social justice. It’s a mostly good framework that I largely agree on, and which meets the moment. However, if the Green New Deal is not rooted in internationalism, then it has the potential to succumb to “green” imperialism, for the resources needed to “greenly” power an average american life is too vast, with the resources needed to do so largely coming from the global south.
