Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started off as a comic book created by Eastman and Laird as a satire of features prominent in superhero comics at the time. Mirage Studios released the first issue in 1984, and it was a surprising hit.
The franchise has seen various characters join the four titular turtles and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had memorably battled a mutated creature called Slash, much before creatures like Jennika or even Venus de Milo showed up on the scene. This turtle, wasn't always noble, and he wasn't necessarily even from Earth.
