In any leak detection, it is important to be methodical

First, it must be established whether the leak is on a pressurized (supply) or non-pressurized (drain) line.

In this video, the water meter was spinning so slowly it was most likely not a pressurized leak. When our thermal imaging did not show any moisture under the slab, we started to look at other possibilities including the dishwasher.

While the line to the refrigerator is the most common non pressurized leak, it was ultimately the dishwasher that was flooding onto the floor. Here the dishwasher had been recently installed and the plumber did not completely tighten the fitting on the line.

So watch out! This simple mistake could cost you dearly. We had to rip out the floor and several cabinets in order to remediate the situation and it was not fun for anyone involved.

The tools we used for the leak detection are:
-FLIR Bcam thermal imaging camera.
-Sub Surface LD 18 listening device (not necessary this time)

Be safe out there and monitor your home closely for any signs of leakage. We hope this video helps worried homeowners in Santa Barbara and beyond to keep their plumbing systems under control. Stay dry my friends, water leaks are serious business!

Thanks for watching!
