The Women of Austin Podcast is a conversational inspirational show where we focus on the power of connection, community, and collaboration by sharing the stories of women in the community. This month marks the 10-year anniversary of TEDx Austin Women (Brave Starts Here), which became the most live and on-demand viewed TEDxWomen event around the world in 2013.

In this episode, Lizzie Velasquez and Sara Hirsh Bordo sit with Host Mindy Hofman to talk about how it came to be and what came after.

The pair have formed a beautiful friendship, and it’s a joy to watch them together talking about this special time in their lives.

Lizzie and Sara reflect on Sara’s film directorial debut, A BRAVE HEART: THE LIZZIE VELASQUEZ STORY, which won the 2015 Audience Award at SXSW and awards at all 11 festivals it played, received two WEBBY Awards, and secured global distribution playing in over 35 countries via National Geographic, LifetimeTV, and Amazon Prime.

Lizzies TEDx talk, “How do you Define Yourself?” has been viewed over 13 million times (link below).

The women also discussed the Women’s March on Austin on January 21st, 2017, and how Sara and her company Woman Rising directed and produced the Rally which ended up being the largest gathering of women in Texas history.
