Vanessa Ruck, a.k.a. @TheGirlOnABike gives us an introduction on how to use, set and maintain a TengTool torque wrench.

What is a torque wrench? A torque wrench enables you basically to put the correct load onto the fastener you’re working on. Some go “white knuckles”, meaning they go with what “feels right” based on experience. With the tolerances on modern engines and mechanics, actually making sure that you are tightening to the correct amount as recommended by the manufacturer can both improve safety and save you money in errors so get proper equipment instead!

TengTools Torque wrenches come in a range of sizes from 1 Nm all the way up to 980 Nm, some torque tool kits have some extras that comes along with it. You've got the adjustment at the bottom of the handle and that is where you set it to either your Nm or your foot-pounds. The torque wrenches typically with a 1”, ¾”, 1/2” or 3/8” square drive. It’s important to bear in mind that a torque wrench is calibrated for tightening to a specific force and you don't want to start using them as some kind of leverage breaker bar. A lot of torque wrenches are one rotational as far as the torque setting which is something to bear in mind when you are considering which one to buy. Torque wrenches will always come precalibrated for their accuracy and having them service and recalibrated is something that you want to get into your one year or roughly 5000 uses depending on the torque wrench that you use.

Do’s and don’ts:
1. Always warm your torque you haven't used it for a period of time (watch the video to learn how!)
2. Every time you use your torque wrench, make sure that you leave it with no torque applied, ie. put it back down to zero torque.
3. When you are putting it away, make sure it is in a dry place without any extremes in temperature or the sort of environment that can cause corrosion.
4. A torque wrench is designed to be the length that it's at. Never put on a bar and turn it into a breaker. You'll only damage the inside, so don't abuse that torque wrench.
5. Always make sure you're using your personal protective equipment when using these tools.

You can also get a screwdriver torque if you're looking at some really delicate engine parts. Having a torque wrench is going to be a financial investment, but it can save you a lot of money in errors that you won't make by applying too much or too little force.

TengTools come with a lifetime warranty.
