THE FLASH Super Bowl Trailer & TV Spot: Batman Returns And Supergirl Debuts In Electrifying First Look!

Warner Bros. has kicked off Super Bowl Sunday with the epic first trailer for The Flash, and there's plenty of Multiversal madness as we get reacquainted with a familiar Batman and a super new ally...

Are you ready for worlds to collide? That's exactly what happens in the first near-3-minute-long trailer for The Flash as Barry Allen finds himself in a world without metahumans that is coming under attack from General Zod (Michael Shannon).

The Scarlet Speedster has broken time, and must now team up with a new Batman (Michael Keaton's Dark Knight from Tim Burton's beloved movies) and Supergirl (Sasha Calle) if he hopes to set things right. However, Barry Allen will have some backup from his past self, and this definitely looks like a wacky Multiversal adventure.

However, those of you who aren't keen on Ezra Miller's take on the Fastest Man Alive may find yourself once again rolling your eyes at not one, but two goofy takes on the hero.

We certainly can't complain about seeing Keaton back in action as Gotham City's Caped Crusader, though, and Ben Affleck has a decent presence here too. With the DCEU set to be rebooted as the DCU, this is likely the final time we see all these characters, though Calle may get the chance to return in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has previously said The Flash is "probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made."

We'll leave it down to you to decide whether this trailer gives that impression, but there are certainly plenty of talking points and it's hard not to wonder how important this story once was for the DCU (especially with the events of Man of Steel being retold).

"Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past," reads the new synopsis. "But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to."

"That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian...albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"

The Flash arrives in theaters on June 16.
