オリジナルのスピンドルガウジを作りました。10ミリのハイス鋼丸棒を加工してます。
ガウジを自作するメリットとしては
①安く済む（材料費として2000円ほど）
②好きな大きさで作れる（個人的にはこのサイズが使用頻度が高く使いやすいです）
デメリットとしては
①手間がかかる（これをデメリットとするかは人によりますので楽しみと捉えればメリットになります）
②それなりの工具が必要（ディスクグラインダー、電動ドリル、回転砥石など、これらを新たに揃えるとなると既製品を買ったほうが安い）となるのではないでしょうか。私自身は作ることは楽しみなのでデメリットにはなりません。金属加工の造詣も深まります。また、新たに買い揃えた工具はないのでコストアップもしてません。自分で作った工具は愛着が湧くものです。みなさんもチャレンジしてみてはいかがでしようか。
I made an original spindle gouge by machining a 10 mm HSS round bar.
The advantages of making your own gouge are
(1) It is inexpensive (about 2,000 yen for materials).
(2) You can make it in any size you like (personally, this size is used frequently and is easy to use).
The disadvantages are
(1) It takes a lot of time and effort (whether this is a demerit depends on the person, so it can be an advantage if you see it as fun)
(2) It requires adequate tools (disk grinders, electric drills, rotary grinding wheels, etc. If you have to buy all these new tools, it is much cheaper to buy ready-made ones). For me personally, it is not a disadvantage because I enjoy making them. It also deepens my knowledge of metalworking. Also, I have not bought any new tools, so the cost has not increased. I am very attached to the tools I made. Why don't you give it a try?
