There's a bit of double arithmetic when people talk about Black Moon: it comes 14 years after the last E, L & P album (Love Beach) and the band dissolution, but it's a little less from the album with Powell behind the drums (in 1986), only six years ago.
Aware at last that they are playing to a different public with a shorter attention span, the trio did both a technological upgrade - Emerson's keyboards are now triggered through MIDI - and a compositional one. Sure, side B has some bombastic pieces, but there are the newer, simpler, easier to digest songs, with a more direct approach to melody.
