This might be my new favorite Android smartwatch. Over the last few days I’ve extensively and systematically tested the Pixel Watch 2 for it’s health and sports tracking capabilities. And, I have to say, the Pixel Watch did not disappoint. And, dare I say it, it might even start to compete with the Apple Watch. Though maybe not completely, since I already encountered some issues in the first few days. I performed a first test of the heart rate tracking performance, sleep tracking accuracy and GPS tracking. Let’s get to it!

Hello everyone, for those of you that are new to the channel, my name is Rob, and I am a postdoctoral scientist specializing in biological data analysis. As you might have noticed, I am not in my usual studio, but I am actually visiting my parents in the Netherlands and recording this video from my childhood bedroom. But, back to the Pixel Watch 2. One of the main improvements of the Pixel Watch 2 compared to the first generation Pixel watch is the improved sensor set, which Google says now has more LEDs, which produces a more accurate heart rate reading than ever before, being up to 40% more accurate for vigorous activities like HIIT, spinning and rowing. This is partially due to a new AI heart rate algorithm as well. Of course this is exactly what we want to put to the test. I tested this on myself during 3 indoor cycling sessions, 3 outdoor bike rides, 3 weight lifting sessions and 3 outdoor runs. In a future video I will also test the Pixel Watch 2 on Theresa, who is also wearing one right now. Let’s start with the performance of the Pixel Watch 2 for a relatively easy exercise, cycling indoors.
