Many different types of rod holders for Jon Boats on the market. I've used many different models and like the Cabela's heavy duty rod holders with the swivel ring to ensure the pole cannot escape the rod holder. I also prefer the rod holders that bolt to my jon boat than clamp on as they are much more stable.
