Two brothers leave their jobs in nightlife to create the world's largest motor-railway, quickly becoming the most popular tourist attraction in Germany with 1M visitors per year.

Much more than just a train set, the 1/87th scale Minatur Wunderland covers 1500 square meters featuring 250K figurines, 15 kilometers of railway, 10,000 train cars spanning 9 themed-worlds including the Hamburg Flughafen with functional robotic planes.

Costing more than €21M, the average time a visitor spends in the museum can be 3-4 hours. Sebastian says that the most important thing is to tell stories, with the 360 workers each contributing their own personality to the layout.

They aim not to explain every detail, allowing everyone to interpret the same scenery in their own way. Minatur Wunderland is currently expanding with a €9M pedestrian bridge and annex across the river.

Special thanks to Jesko Hatzakis and Sebastian Drechsler
