Coming up, we’re going to go behind the Top 10 songs of this very same week from the year 1982. But that’s not all. After we count them down, we’re re-ranking each song according to all-time streams and views, to find out which song has made the biggest mark on history. So who do you think will take the top spot today? Will it be a veteran band like Journey, a previous chart-topping act like Rick Springfield, or the J. Geils Band? Or maybe a surprise one-hit wonder? Or could it be an 80s hit machine like Huey Lewis and the News? Stick around and find out if any of these contenders can make a run for the top spot… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

Guess what my friends! It’s time for another edition of our well-traveled countdown show the Hit Song Redux where we travel back to a week in the golden era of the rock and roll and re-rank the Top 10 songs of THAT SPECIFIC week based on how much the world has listened to them since THEIR PEAK POSITION ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100. As always, we’re including artist interviews, in-depth commentary, as well as your stories and dedications. And I want to make sure I”m clear… this is not my personal top 10. and it’s not the top 10 for the whole year… It’s the actual top 10 from this exact week in 1982. First, we count them down as they were, then and then we run them through a recalibration process to find out the real top 10 based on all-time streams and views.

Before we get started though I have to give a shout-out to my hero, the great Casey Kasem and his program the American Top 40 Countdown. This show is a tribute to him.

So, to get us into the proper pop culture context of the day, let’s talk movies and television. If you went to the movie theater around this time you could catch a young Tom Cruise in Taps, or the supernatural horror flick Cat People, or the inspiring sports drama Chariots of Fire. And on television, you might tune into the Tom Selleck classic Magnum PI, the 6th Season finale of Dallas, or you could watch the final few episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati. it was a great time to be alive! As for Saturday morning cartoons, Spiderman and His Amazing Friends and The Smurfs were both at the top of the list.

So alright, let’s get started. Coming in at #10, it’s the brave little bar band who could. it’s Do You Believe in Love by Huey Lewis and the News. No doubt about it, Huey Lewis was one of the premier acts of the 80s, turning in a slew Hot 100 hits. In fact from 1983 to 1988, Huey and his band the News had 11 Top 10 hits and two #1 albums. Back then they had a 5 year run that you could put up against just about any artist or act in the rock era. And actually, Huey was one of only 7 artists in the rock era to release at least 2 albums with a least four Top 10 hits each…
