Well, after much prodding, I decided to seize the dragon by the snout and offer the ideal list of Wagner operas, including the best possible Ring cycle (with four different conductors). You may not prefer Wagner, or opera in general, but you won't find a better selection of performances if you're putting together a fine, representative collection to impress your friends and make them think you really like this stuff.
