Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways announced it had grounded its entire fleet of A350 aircraft for inspections on September 2, 2024. The decision came after a Zurich-bound flight returned to Hong Kong following take-off, and an engine component failure was identified later the same day. The carrier said the problem was the “first of its type” globally. As a result, 68 flights scheduled on September 3 and 4 were cancelled. On August 31, one of Cathay’s Hong Kong-bound Airbus A330-300 aircraft had to abort take-off after an engine caught fire at Taiwan’s Kaohsiung airport.
