Our blacksmith, Nguyễn Duy, smelted sponge iron and charcoal to make bloomery steel, and he forged a small blade from it. It took him three attempts at smelting to make a desirable bloom of steel. The material turned out a bit too mild and flawed, but it is acceptable for an experimental blade.
