FAQ/Corrections:

Q1) What is “Min Maxing?”

A1) This is a term for reducing something in game to the minimum requirements, providing you as much of a bonus for areas you want to maximise. In the case of BG3, dropping stats to say 8 so others can get higher.

Q2) What difficulty do you recommend starting on?

A2) You can change the difficulty at any point back and forth in your playthrough. If you are new to D&D then I suggest starting on “Balanced”. If it starts to get easy then try out “Tactician”.

The start of games like these often feel hard because you are low level. There is no shame in increasing the difficulty as you go. If you are well versed in RPG games, especially D&D or Pathfinder games and like a bit more of a challenge, then “Tactician” is very acceptable to start on.

Q3) You mentioned the races are now in a “Role Play place”, what do you mean by this?

A3) In the table top version and other similar games like this (Nevewinter Nights 1+2, BG2, Pathfinder Kingmaker etc), the races have set ability changes. For example the Half-Orc always getting +2 strength and +1 constitution. Making them perfect to play as a Barbarian, but not so great for our classes like rogues where the strength boost will mostly be wasted.

Larian have elected to ignore specific race attribute bonuses and instead all characters no matter of race get a +2 and a +1. Allowing you to role play or pick the race you like the most and match it with any class without knowing you are wasting ability points.
