I've tried and tested several small rugged tripods for nature filmmaking over the years during environmental filmmaking field assignments. Portability and ruggedness are always the two most important factors. Especially portability. For the past five years I've depended on one small tripod by @iFootageInternational for most of my film and video work for clients. I like to call my iFootage Cobra Minipod portable tripod my multi-tool because it can morph from a small tripod to a stand for my portable slider for low-down filming, to even being useful as a handheld manual stabilizer when held against my chest. Its adjustable feet, pivoting ball joint, and quick release plate also make it super fast to use in the field which is important for adapting fast to the environmental work and research that I am filming.
