Synopsis: Beats From Heaven places a spotlight on percussion in gospel music. It breaks down the rhythms heard within Black British churches, how they impact lives weekly, all while reflecting the specific communities present in congregations. The film documents the skill behind gospel beats as well as the large impact gospel drummers have had in secular British music today. It celebrates Black creativity and how Black churches offer a formative musical environment unlike any other, featuring Femi Koleoso of the 2023 Mercury Award-winning group Ezra Collective.

Director Bio: Eden Igwe (she/they) is an early-stage writer/director of fiction and non-fiction work, currently dedicated to gaining closer knowledge of the filmmaking process through assisting on productions. Their afrosurrealist short film Be On My Side was screened at an independent film festival, and poetry film ‘passage’ was showcased by UK distributor TAPE Collective on their online platform. Eden’s film with Warner Bros. Discovery in partnership with Bounce Cinema centres on the ingenuity of gospel rhythms, speaking to musicians with histories of playing the drums in Black churches in the UK.
