After all the work in the garden, I sometimes get an odd twinge in my back and this balm offers powerful, natural pain relief. So simple to make, all you need is Cayenne Pepper, Olive Oil and some Beeswax. All the details are below so you can try making it yourself. Please follow the recipe exactly to avoid any harm. I am not responsible in any way for the outcome of your balm as I am merely sharing this recipe for interest.

If you are interested in making your own herbal balms and salves and other herbal medicines, consider my Introduction to Herbal Medicine course. More details about it here, - https://www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
My other course which is available on line, the Wise Woman Way training, also includes herbal medicine but this course is a transpersonal course following the Celtic Wheel of the Year and drawing on druidic and shamanic techniques. You can find out more here - https://www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
The Weed Handbooks Volume 1 and Volume 2 are my two little books that reveal the powerful, healing potential of wild plants that are commonly regarded as weeds. The books encourage you to reconsider and reconnect with the wild plants close to you. You can find them in the shop - https://www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...

If you would like to make your own Cayenne Balm for aches and pains, here is the recipe. It is the same recipe for either the cold infusion method or the hot infusion method.

8ozs Olive oil
4 tablespoons of pure Cayenne Pepper - DO NOT USE A CHILLI PEPPER MIX
1 0Z Beeswax
Essential oils of Clove, Peppermint and Lavender, DO NOT USE FRAGRANCE OILS

For the cold infusion method - simply measure your Cayenne Pepper into a jar and pour over the Olive oil. Let this infuse for 4 - 6 weeks, (I always go for 6 weeks). Stir and shake each day to ensure the Cayenne pepper does not cake at the bottom of the jar. After 6 weeks strain out the Cayenne through sieve with at least a couple of pieces of muslin/cheesecloth in it. You can now use this Cayenne oil as it is or add beeswax to create a salve or balm. Place the Cayenne infused oil into a bowl and place in a pan of simmering water or into a double boiler and add the beeswax. When the beeswax has melted remove from the heat and pour into clean jars. After a moment or so, add the essential oils. When completely cool, place on the caps.

For the hot infusion - which only takes a number of hours - place the Cayenne pepper into a bowl or a pyrex jug, with the olive oil and heat very gently. Once it is warm, remove from the heat and allow to cool for twenty minutes. Heat again until the bowl or jug feels warm and then allow to cool again. Repeat this process for several hours or leave on a cooling stove overnight. (I warmed and cooled mine for about three hours but I think the finished balm would be more powerful if allowed to infuse for longer.) When you are satisfied that the Cayenne Pepper has infused for long enough, strain through a sieve and layers of muslin or cheesecloth. Add the beeswax. When the beeswax has melted, pour the infused oil into jars. When it is has cooled for a moment or so, add the essential oils and when fully cool, cap the jars and label.

Cayenne Pepper is an analgesic, blocking the pain signal to the brain. The heat can bring relief to aches and pains, arthritic joints, rheumatic pain, neurological pain, head aches, bumps and bruises. The essential oils are analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Apply only a small amount as a little goes a long way! ALWAYS ENSURE TO KEEP IT AWAY FROM BROKEN SKIN AND FROM THE EYES. I hope you find this helpful.
