This video discusses simple Hotel Security Tips to maximize your personal safety when staying at any hotel. I’m going to walk you through the process step by step from what to do, before, while checking in and how to enhancing the physical security of the room.

PRE-TRIP
Do your homework. Before booking, take the time to scout out the hotel. Is it in a low crime area or high crime area, read a few of the review and see what other people are saying? This seems simple but you can gain a lot of information. If possible, request a second-floor room.

UPON ARRIVAL
First thing you want to do is a quick drive around the parking lot. This only takes a few minutes, but you get kind of the lay of the land and most importantly I can observe if there is anything that makes me feel uncomfortable or suspicious.

CHECK IN
Just speak to the clerk, no need to let the whole lobby know you first and last name.

BONUS TIP: If your military, law enforcement and of traveling with a lot of gear, leave it in the vehicle. Check in then come back and bring it in through a side door. There is no need to advertise who you are and/or that you may have gear worth taking.

SECURIING THE DOOR
Due to fire safety codes the deadbolts must open freely if activated from within so this provided a unique vulnerability. Take steps to prevent easy access

EARLY WARNING
Place items in front of the door that will alert you if anyone attempts to make entry.
LEAVING THE ROOM
Take your valuables with you if at all possible.
Leave the television on
Last resort, use the room safe
Lock your luggage
Set tamper traps
