In this video I cover the best ingredients for compost (also listed below), creating a good environment for the bacteria, insects and microbes that break down that organic matter. Also included are ways to speed up the process and what to use for a compost bin.

CARBON (BROWN)
• Fall leaves
• Pine needles
• Twigs, chipped tree branches/bark
• Sawdust
• Corn stalks
• Paper (newspaper, writing/printing paper, paper plates and napkins, coffee filters)
• Dryer lint
• Cotton fabric
• Corrugated cardboard (without any waxy/slick paper coatings
• I get a bale of straw for $12 and that fills in throughout the year for any shortage of brown material


NITROGEN (GREEN)
• Grass clippings
• Coffee grounds/tea bags
• Vegetable and fruit scraps
• Trimmings from perennial and annual plants
• Annual weeds that haven't set seed
• Eggshells
• Animal manures (cow, horse, sheep, chicken, rabbit, etc. No manure from meat eating animals dogs and cats.)
• Seaweed
