The engine was first used in the Matra MS11 car in 1968, driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo. Stewart also won the drivers' championship and Matra won the constructors' championship in 1969 with the Matra MS80 car, which featured innovative structural fuel tanks.
