Hi Everyone!
In todays video I am building a huge 1-16 Jet Powered Global Hawk Drone. This project is a continuation of my Ardupilot series and it combines many new interesting solutions like V-Tail, Flaperons, Skis and Electric Jet Thruster. It was also my first time building such a large plane, so I might have messed some things up. The whole Global Hawk weighed around 1200 grams with 5S Battery and 1500 grams after adding the Skis and balance bolts at the rear. With the EDF able to produce more than 2kg of thrust I had assumed there would be no problems with taking off, but it seems I was wrong. It’s possible that the Li-ion batteries together with weak ESC were limiting the thrust, or maybe the shape of tail was pointing the thrust downwards due to Coandă effect.
But most likely it just needs a long and smooth runaway and proper landing gear in order to achieve take off speed. I will definitely revisit this project once the snow melts, but before that I would be very thankful for your advice and ideas on how to make this plane actually fly.
