Whether you’re religious or not, you know what a basic Nativity scene looks like -- Joseph and Mary kneeling by the manger of the baby Jesus, surrounded by shepherds, kings, and farm animals. However, while all of these things are mentioned in the Bible, the story of the Nativity isn’t described exactly as we picture it.

While the Bible does say that Joseph was a carpenter, the word used in the original Greek suggests that he might have worked with a lot more than just wood, and this is just one thing about Jesus’ parents that might surprise you.
