Testing an Arctic King branded window type air conditioner model WWK05CM81N. The unit is rated for 5,000 BTU/hour of cooling. It utilizes a Qingan rotary compressor with R410a refrigerant and a Welling fan motor. The manufacturing date is 11/2017, which makes it likely to have been purchased in the Summer of 2018.

I retrieved the unit from the curb in the latter portion of 2018, around the very end of summer. I got it with the intention of using it at work. The air conditioning did not work properly in the building where my office was, leaving the area extremely humid. It didn't seem very dirty when I found it, I don't remember even bringing it home for cleaning. It went right to work the next day.

I used it at work only a handful of times as the heat and humidity were already phasing out for the year by the time I got it. I unfortunately got laid off from that job the following Spring, and therefor never got to use the machine at work anymore.

After that, I brought it home and cleaned it up. I then gave it to my grandfather with the intention of him using it in his garage as it was very damp in the garage, but he didn't want to. I later found it installed in the lower level of his house. He used it a few years, then I took it back when I first bought my house and used it in the bedroom. It put in quite a few hours at my grandparents house, as well as here.

After sitting for well over a year without use, it came back to life flawlessly during this test. The compressor didn't even have any chattering to do, which is unusual for the rotary type. The temperature delta was more than satisfactory. The compressor sounds very nice, it's unfortunate the fan is so loud.

In all 3 of those use cases, the machine was used to cool a much larger area than intended. Regardless, it worked quite well. It didn't make any of the areas freezing cold, but it took out a lot of humidity and dropped the temperature a few degrees, which made the spaces feel considerably more comfortable.

Some of these 5,000 BTU models, usually those still with mechanical controls, are satisfactory if you run the machine while using ear plugs. This unit works well, but is obnoxiously loud. It's served the family well thus far, especially for free. Time will tell how long it will continue to.
