We started on the tile of our house, we used hex tile on the floor, and then a faux wood tile on the walls of the shower. We had a seamless transition from the laundry room, down the hall and into the bathroom. We also used Schluter systems to waterproof the walls, as well as the floor. I would absolutely recommend all of Schluter's products, they were easy to install, and gave us an additional piece of mind.
