Billy Cotton's band had become extremely popular in the UK by the end of the 1930's and in the two year period 1939 -1940 he recorded in excess of 130 tracks for the Rex label. This huge output was maintained throughout the war period, many featuring the band's resident vocalist Alan Breeze. Here are four of my particular favourites from this period, all with Alan Breeze:
"Day in - day out" , recorded 30th November 1939
"The only one who's difficult is you" (from Arthur Askeys film "Band wagon"), recorded 26th September 1939
"There's a boy coming home on leave" , recorded 2nd April 1940
"I've got my eyes on you" (From Fred Astaire's film "Broadway Melody of 1940"), recorded 28th May 1940
These tracks are excellent showcases for the band at this period, I hope you will enjoy them
