In this video I make a walnut and cherry magnetic knife block. I drilled holes with a router and left 2/16 of an inch (3.175mm) of wood. The magnets were 1/2 inch rare-earth magnets rated for 9 lbs of carrying capacity. I used two part epoxy to hold the magnets in place and pieces of dowels to prevent the magnets from being pulled together inside the block.
