Michigan Super Smash Bros. Melee is known for its deep bench of incredible players, making it perhaps the Midwest's premiere Midwest region, but its culture goes beyond simply high level play. One of West Michigan's most storied traditions is Dorfball, a game featuring two Captain Falcons and a Level 1 Ganondorf CPU that has captured the hearts of dozens, and a mode that saw new life in 2023, culminating with its appearance at The Big House 11 as an official unofficial side bracket.

I spoke to members of the Michigan Dorfball community about the game and its history, and uncovered more of that history in the process. SSBM may never be the same.

This video was shot in part in-person at The Big House 11, and I did so with a pretty jank recording setup, so I tried my best to save the audio but it is not perfect.
