It’s been a long time since I looked at Extra Credits and their takes. I don’t know if I’d just been ignoring them, or if they were genuinely trying to release better content, but this time I gotta say…this is a weird take. As you may know, I’m a big fan of Dracula. Both the real person and the fictional vampire. I’ve heard many claims and accusations hurled at the Romanian prince, and I’ve defending Vlad against many of them…..but this one is such a weird take I actually had to rewatch the video a few times and pull out my old Dracula books just to be sure I wasn’t missing something.
Apparently Extra Credits believes that much of Dracula’s impaling cruelty can be attributed not to the Ottomans or to his upbringing under their rule…but rather his father. I’ve never heard this ludicrous reasoning before. Of all the things you can accuse Vlad II of, being abusive is not one I’ve heard…so let’s break down this stupid. :)
