New for 2018
The Sonata receives an extensive refresh for the new model year including a new eight-speed automatic, “cascading” grille, narrower headlights and taillights, a new hood, front fenders, a larger trunk lid, new wheel designs, available LED headlights, and a new rear fascia. Inside, the center stack and steering wheel have been redesigned, and the 2.0T model differentiates itself from the rest of the lineup with a mesh grille, black bezel headlights, a black lower front bumper, black DRL surrounds, dark chrome exterior trim, and chrome on the rear diffuser. Blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert are now standard on all trims.

Trim Levels
The Sonata is Hyundai’s midsize sedan that’s positioned above the smaller Accent and Elantra, but below the larger Azera. Aside from a choice of gas engines, the Sonata will continue to be offered as a
2018 Sonata SE: The Sonata’s base SE trim comes well-equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert and lane change assist, a 7.0-inch center touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a 3.5-inch instrument panel driver’s display, automatic headlights, a drive mode selector, remote keyless entry, six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, as well as USB and auxiliary ports.
2018 Sonata Eco: The Eco trim comes with the same equipment as the SE trim (minus the drive mode selector) but adds the more efficient 1.6-liter turbo-four and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission powertrain instead of the 2.4-liter I-4 engine.
2018 Sonata SEL: Building off the SE’s features, the SEL adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10-way power driver’s seat, quick-entry with a push-start ignition, heated front seats, LED daytime running lights, heated side view mirrors, a hands-free automatic trunk, a 4.2-inch instrument panel driver’s display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leatherette door panel inserts, SiriusXM satellite radio, a rear USB port, and the Blue Link telematics system with Connected Care and Remote packages.

2018 Sonata Sport: The Sport trim adds a Sport grille, front fascia, rear diffuser, shift knob, seats, rocker panels, and instrument cluster. The Sport also adds a leather-wrapped D-shaped steering wheel, glossy trim, black headliner, aluminum pedals, the 3D tech appearance interior trim, dark chrome doors handles, LED interior lights, power sunroof, and a dual exhaust.
2018 Sonata Limited: The Limited adds more luxury with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, steering-responsive LED headlights, power sunroof, LED taillights, six-way power passenger’s seat, wood grain appearance interior trim, dual automatic climate control, rear A/C vents, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and metal door sills.
2018 Sonata Sport 2.0T: Building off the Sonata Sport’s features, the Sport 2.0T adds the more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four engine and new eight-speed automatic, 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin tires, a sport-tuned suspension, and larger front brakes.
2018 Sonata Limited 2.0T: Building off the Limited’s trim, the Limited 2.0T adds the 2.0-liter turbo-four powertrain, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with start/stop, an 8.0-inch center touchscreen with navigation (with Blue Link Guidance), an Infinity premium audio system, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with automatic vehicle hold, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, SiriusXM Travel Link, and wireless device charging.

Performance and Fuel Economy
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata is powered by a 185-hp, 178-lb-ft of torque 2.4-liter I-4 that delivers an EPA-rated 25/36 mpg city/highway on the base SE model and 25/35 mpg on the other trims. The 178-hp, 195-lb-ft 1.6-liter turbo-four found in the Sonata Eco model delivers the best fuel economy in the lineup at 28/37 mpg. The 245-hp, 260-lb-ft 2.0-liter turbo-four that powers the 2.0T model is rated at 23/32 mpg. A six-speed automatic routes power to the front wheels on the 2.4-liter engine, but a new eight-speed automatic backs the 2.0-liter turbo-four engine option this year. A more efficient seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is used on the Eco’s 1.6-liter turbo-four. The Sonata hybrid and plug-in hybrid models sport a 154-hp 2.0-liter I-4 engine paired to a 51-hp and 67-hp electric motor, respectively. In Motor Trend testing, the 2018 Sonata 2.0T Limited hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and stopped from 60 mph in a short 113 feet.
