A French drain? A simple drainage channel or something else? Before we can begin work on the drainage around our farmhouse in Ireland, we first need somewhere for the surface water to drain to. With this in mind, Ben starts to remove the heaviest stones we have ever moved during our Farmhouse Renovation.

Utilising the gap between the two 200 year old outbuildings, which is where the water seems to naturally flow to, the goal is to remove the soil and heavy stones to allow any water from around the farmhouse to flow to the ditch on the homestead instead of filling the gap and turning the soil to mud.

Being complete beginners at farmhouse renovation and also really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide, we are taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.
