In this tutorial, I will begin a pastel painting with an initial layer of magic marker sketching. This technique, though simple, harbors a treasure trove of benefits that I'm thrilled to share with you. Embracing a marker for our preliminary sketches not only anchors our composition with decisive lines but also ensures that these foundational gestures remain unblemished, regardless of the water-based mediums or vigorous blending we introduce later. This method allows the true vibrancy of pastels to shine through without the fear of smudging or bleeding.

Our journey doesn't end with the sketch. I will share my process (in a speed version) of transforming these initial marks into a stunning depiction of golden tulips, cradled within a fantastic vase.
